Inntravel says
Spend a few days pedalling along the quiet lanes and unspoiled coastline of northern Catalonia and you will discover a world apart from the busy tourist resorts further south. This cyclist’s paradise reveals tiny hidden coves and sandy beaches where you can relax well away from the crowds. Just inland, the Empordà Plain, a beguiling patchwork of medieval farms and ancient villages, gives way to the valleys and wooded slopes of the Garrotxa.
We offer a choice of two four-night cycling breaks in Catalonia, each exploring two very different sides of this wonderful region.
On our Lakes and Volcanoes of the Garrotxa break, you cycle among ancient stone villages, dotted between wheat fields and pine woods, on your way to the fascinating city of Girona. The Garrotxa is a little-known region of immense charm in the foothills of the Pyrenees that boasts an alluring landscape of volcanic cones. Cycling is at its leisurely best, often following traffic-free disused railway lines (vías verdes or ‘green trails’).
Or opt for our equally unhurried Catalan Coast break. Taking in stretches of beautiful coastline between Palamós and Begur, this route passes through atmospheric towns such as hill-top Pals, where you can admire the ancient ramparts and cobbled streets; and Peratallada, another architectural gem and foodie’s delight, boasting an outstanding choice of top-class restaurants.
