Small, family-run hotels are a great French tradition. We have been offering short breaks across the Channel since 1984 and know exactly what to look for in these wonderful auberges - bags of character, comfortable bedrooms, an attractive setting with plenty of interest in the local vicinity and, above all, a welcoming atmosphere and excellent food.
The Ferme du Vert, just 17 miles from Calais, yet situated in attractive rolling countryside, is just such a place. In fact, as soon as you enter the spacious courtyard of this characterful farmhouse on the edge of Wierre Effroy, you know you have arrived somewhere special, and feel as though you are in the very heart of France.
Bedrooms, fashioned from the farm buildings, are all different shapes and sizes. Possibly the most delightful are those in the old hay loft; those with a bath are the largest.
You will receive a warm welcome from the Bernard family, and enjoy three-course dinners of refined country cooking in their intimate restaurant. Choose from dishes such as marinated duck on a bed of salad or veal in a mustard sauce.
Being so close to Calais, this is a tempting spot for a quick getaway at any time of the year. Good for shopping, exploring market towns and visiting the WW1 battlefields, northern France also boasts an attractive coast and some picturesque valleys. Inntravel’s breaks to the Ferme du Vert include a Channel crossing with P&O Ferries from Dover to Calais and two nights’ dinner, bed and breakfast.

It may be just a hop across the Channel but in pockets of the Pas de Calais you'll feel as immersed in the “real” France as if you'd driven half way across the country. Authentic, simple and great value, La Ferme du Vert ticks every box for us, not least for its unpretentious cooking. It also has a collection of farmyard animals that will delight the children.
