101 Short Breaks

Riga

Mark and David's verdict

Riga is a buzzing, cosmopolitan city of parks and boulevards, opera houses, coffee shops and galleries. The Latvian capital has an attractive Old Town with winding cobbled streets and medieval churches. It’s extremely good value, the museums are superb and the nightlife is nothing short of frenetic.

Regent Holidays says:

The largest and most energetic capital of the Baltics, Riga is a city with much to offer in terms of history, architecture and entertainment. It is a great value destination, as it falls outside the Eurozone with a main meal costing from as little as £4 and a large beer from only £1.50.

The medieval Old Town, Vecriga, is the historic heart of the city and is home to lively street cafés, restaurants and bars. Allow time to visit the moving Occupation Museum of Latvia, as well as the huge covered markets, converted from old Zeppelin Hangars.

We recommend catching local bus number 1 to the Ethnographic Open Air Museum. Here you can view authentic wooden houses, windmills and farmsteads from all over Latvia set in a beautiful pine forest on Lake Jugla.

A 3-night city break to Riga with Regent Holidays costs from under £400 including direct flights from London and accommodation in a 3-star hotel. Our Latvian specialists travel frequently throughout the Baltics and can give you first-hand knowledge and tips that you can’t always find in a guide book.

As we specialise in tailor-made short breaks and longer holidays to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, we can book other categories of hotels and excursions in and around Riga, and throughout the Baltics, to suit your requirements.
