101 Short Breaks

Tall ships cruise

Our verdict

With its towering masts, billowing sails and brass and mahogany trimmings, the Star Flyer is a traditional sailing ship with all mod cons. There’s a choice of short breaks on the French and Italian Rivieras – with Corsica, Elba and Portofino among the ports of call – plus a cruise to coincide with the Monaco Grand Prix.

Star Clippers says

Cruising under sail on board a fully-rigged tall ship is a thrilling and romantic experience whether you are heading for the tropics, the Med, the Baltic or on a five-week ocean crossing.

In 2010, we are offering three-night ‘Riviera Getaway’ sailings on board the 170-passenger Star Flyer, taking in the glamorous ports and resorts of the Cote d’Azur and Corsica.

And for anyone who is drawn to the pizzazz of Formula One - our 7-night Grand Prix sailing from Cannes on May 15 will see the ship anchored outside the harbour at Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix final.

Other three-night breaks on our twin ship, Star Clipper, include sailings around the Greek Islands and Turkey’s coastline.

Star Clippers’ fleet of three historically styled fully-rigged tall ships is reminiscent of the trading clippers of the 19th century. Travelling full sail, with thousands of feet of billowing sails overhead, is a unique experience. On board, the mood is all about relaxed elegance. Guests are encouraged to dress casually, dine at their leisure and enjoy an unhurried atmosphere.

Prices (from £550 pp for three nights) include breakfast, lunch and dinner, afternoon tea and midnight snacks, with a daily itinerary of sailing and port visits, often to locations inaccessible by larger ships.

Star Clipper, Star Flyer and Royal Clipper offer year-round sailings in the Caribbean, Central America and the Mediterranean.
